SO, THEY GOT THEIRS BEFORE I GOT TO THE OFFICE TODAY. I WAS SO HAPPY THAT I ASKED ONE OF THEM “ LET’S WEAR OUR NEW SHOES TO OUR BOSS’ BIRTHDAY PARTY SO THAT EVERYONE CAN SEE THEM”. Today, we looked at words in Yoruba that mean more than one thing. Please read below examples of such words:

Ẹni ọdún márùndínlógbọ̀n ni Tóbi Amúsàn. Ó jẹ́ eléré ìje. O gba àmì ẹ̀yẹ góòlù nínu ìdíje World Athletics Championship ti odun 2022. Ẹ̀ẹ̀mejì ni ó ṣe ǹkan tí ẹnìkankan ò ṣe rí nínu eré sísá àwọn obìnrin ní àgbáyé ní ọjọ́ kan. Tobi Amusan is 25 years old. She is an athlete. She got a gold medal at the World Athletletics championship of 2022. She broke two world records in one day. Ó gba wúrà ní ere ije ni àkókò tí ó kúrú jù ní ìdíje Championship lagbaye. She won gold and broke world record in the shortest time recorded in World Athletics Championship. She ran hundred metres in 12:12 seconds and got a gold medal in the competition. She said her parents are “no nonsense” people. Her father wanted her to get education alone but her mother thought they should give her a chance to do what she loved to do. Her father did not like Athletics but her mother supported her.Infact, her mother used to lie to her father about where she went for athletics practice or for competitions. He then warned her mother that that should be the last time that he would see Tobi around sports. Tobi’s father did not believe in Athletics but Tobi believed in herself. It was this belief that made her win in the competition. Àrẹ orílẹ̀ èdè Nigeria àti àwọn èyàn ńláńlá ní Nigeria ti kí Tóbi kú oríire fún àṣeyọrí yìí. The President of Nigeria and some “big” people in Nigeria have congratulated Tobi for this success. She brought pride which was sung when she received the gold medal. Her hard work brought joy and happiness to all Nigerians. She worked hard, and she saw the reward.
