Hey there, language enthusiasts,
Welcome back to another exciting week at Lede Yoruba, where we're dedicated to unraveling the beauty of the Yoruba language and culture. Whether you're a seasoned member or new to our community, we're thrilled to have you here! Talking of which, let's give a warm welcome to Sayo and Helen who joined a few days back! We're delighted to have you on board as we continue our language journey together.
Now let's preview this week's destination.
Learn Yoruba with Stories and Current Issues:
Our exploration of significant names in Yoruba history continues in this week's Stories & Issues session. Get ready to explore the life and legacy of the remarkable Funmilayo Ransome Kuti. As the first woman to drive a car in Nigeria, she not only left an indelible mark in history but also raised children who followed in her footsteps of making significant contributions. Join us as we delve into the captivating story of Funmilayo Ransome Kuti, expanding our vocabulary and gaining insights into her influential role in Nigerian history and the broader fight for gender equality.
Learn Yoruba with Movies:
Continuing on the car theme, we will explore a scene from "Tanganran" in our movie session. Picture this: a male boss develops an interest in one of his female staff members. He spots her walking with her friends and offers them a ride home. However, the friends politely decline the offer. In this scene, we'll learn Yoruba as the boss tries to single out the lady he's interested in, while her friends continue to turn down his offer in a respectful manner. It's a chance to explore Yoruba expressions of politeness, persistence, and navigating social interactions. Get ready to enhance your vocabulary and grasp the nuances of interpersonal communication in Yoruba culture.
As usual, we will have the "Meet and Chat" sessions that have no agenda and allows you organically express your thoughts to each other.
